Now, as a small warning, I feel I must tell you that you shouldn't believe what I write (unless you want to)
You see, I'm not so... learned... in history, so some things may not be historically accurate. For example, I might say that village A is shaped after the town of Salem during the witch trials while later the characters will travel to town b, which is stuck in like, the Middle Ages or something. Just ignore it. Also, please excuse any misspellings and my horrible grammar. For the most part, I am trying to create an enjoyable story, most of which has already formed in my 'undeveloped' mind.
Edit: Nanaki changed to Sain, spellcheck
And now that I've thoroughly bored my readers to death, I begin my tale!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 1: A Mistaken Meeting
The night was dark, the sky was clear, and a crescent moon hung high in the night sky. Sain trudged up the grassy hill, to the edge of the forest, the town's outskirts. He yawned.
'Why, oh WHY do I have to have the LONGEST and LATEST shift? HUH?!... I mean, a senior Hunter must have better conditions than this!' he thought.
Sain was a part of a far-spread faction called ' The Hunters'. You see, in this day and age, the world was full of magic, demons, witches, warlocks, and all sorts of magical creatures. Unfortunately, they (in Sain's and most people's opinions) were pure evil, and were looked upon the same way a doctor may look at a plague: some thing disgusting and dangerous. Something to be exterminated. That was the Hunters' purpose: to eliminate all sources of magic.
Sain had been a Hunter for quite a while. In fact, he was one of the most experienced in his town, and was therefore a senior, although he wasn't at all old. He was only 20, and actually, he was pretty hot, in a scruffy 'I-don't-care-about-appearances-cuz-I-naturally-look-great-no-matter-what-I-wear' kind of way. Unfortunately, being a senior made him eligible for the harder assignments, like the 5-hour graveyard shift, where he'd patrol the edge of the forest surrounding the town and watch for magic activity. He, of course, hated the graveyard shift. Everyone did.
“I don't even know why we even have Hunters stationed in this puny town. I mean, it's never seen ANY magic activity since... well... 30 years ago when it was BUILT!!!" He stretched out on the ground, glaring at no one in particular... at least, until he heard a rustling.
Sain shot up, suddenly full of energy, ready for a fight.
"Who's there?!" he yelled, listening for a response. He got none, but he could certainly tell that whatever it was coming closer, much closer.
"I'm warning you!!!"
rustle rustle
"I'm armed!"
rustle rustle
"Come out and fight like...well... whatever you are!"
And suddenly, a smallish black thing hurdled itself out of the bushes and stopped at his feet. It was a black cat. The 'great' Sain jumped back, scared.
"W-What?! a CAT???" It rubbed against his legs, looking up at him with inquisitive eyes. "Mew?" it said. Sain, being a bit soft at heart, reached down to pet the adorable creature, and promptly the cat decided to bite him. What's worse is that it decided not to let go. He screamed. Boy, he SCREAMED.
"GRAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! LEGGO! LEGGO!”
When the cat finally decided it had had enough, it had already left two decent sized punctures in Sain's hand, both of which were bleeding badly. He backed away, his glare now directed on the cat, which had decided to, at that moment, clean itself. He snorted in disbelief. Sain probably would've skinned it alive if something, rather, someone else hadn't stepped out of the forest.
He took a fighting stance, hoping he'd actually react before he got bitten again. Only, it wasn't a cat that stepped out of the woods. It was a young girl, who was in fact, very beautiful. She wore an elaborate black dress that reached to her ankles, and beneath it a few layers of pure white lace poked out, for the layers caused the dress to puff out, big and round. The sleeves of the dress left her shoulders uncovered, and from there down she wore something that resembled baggy sleeves.
On her feet were a pair of black boots and around her neck was a black lace choker, much like a collar, and from it dangled a silver star pendant. She wore a pointed hat, and carried a small messenger bag. Her hair was a soft brown, with big, innocent eyes to match. In short, she was (to Sain) nothing short of stunning. She was definitely younger and smaller than him (17, while he in turn was 20). This made her cute and adorable as well.
"I'm terribly sorry!! Are you okay? Has Batou hurt you?!" She said this in a rush, each word like a bit of beautiful music, for she had a lovely French accent.
Sain exposed his hand, showing her the wound. By now it had started to hurt, and he winced as she held it in her two delicate hands. She hurriedly took a handkerchief out of her bag and cleaned his hand, and then she took a white ribbon out of her hair and tenderly tied it around the wound. She looked up at him.
"I really am very sorry. Batou just isn't a people person."
"I-it's fine!! I'm really alright, after all, it's just a teensy bite, eh heh heh..."
He didn't know why, but suddenly Sain was having trouble forcing the words out of his mouth, and he felt a bit shy as well. He had never felt this way before!
She giggled.
"My name is Acrisiss." she said, a smile on her lips. She curtsied.
"I am pleased to meet you, Acrisiss. I am Sain, a Hunter." there was something about her name... something familiar... it gave him a nagging feeling, as if there was something he should've known...
Sain bowed formally, although he didn't know why. She certainly wasn't royalty. "I'm sorry to ask, but it is my duty as a Hunter: What is your business here?"
Acrisiss seemed to have paled at his mention of being a Hunter, and she didn't seem so happy.
"I've been traveling to find the town of Erem, for I wish to live there. Tell me; is this the town of Erem?"
"Yes, it is, although I don't see why you'd live here, it’s a pretty small town."
"I have my reasons." without another word, she passed by him, the cat at her heels, and began to walk down the hill and into town.
'What's wrong with her?...' he thought, surprised by her sudden change in mood. "Feh... Women..."
He continued to watch her, almost entranced. He saw another Hunter coming up the path, towards him.
Sain raised his hand to wave, but to his surprise, Brom (the Hunter) tackled Acrisiss to the ground and began to chain her. Nanaki raced down the path, alarmed at his friend's strange behavior.
"Hey! Hey Brom! Whaddaya think your doing to the poor girl?! Get off her!"
Brom looked up, startled.
"What?... but this--...oh, that's right... you don't know! Here, this just came in."
Brom handed him a wanted poster, and it was now ridiculously clear why Brom had tackled Acrisiss.
Acrisiss was a wanted witch.

So, that was chapter one! Yes, I know, pretty short, but I (unfortunately) do not have the patience to sit and type for very long. I do not have full constant use of a computer, so I'm unable to update as much as I'd like. I'll try every Friday, if possible. Please review, and tell me how I'm doing!
